Musings from the edge

Well, my fish is living in a measuring cup, no thanks to the orange monster. He managed to launch himself from floor level to a china cabinet, five feet high, link his paw around the aquarium and pull it off, sending it crashing to the floor into pieces. At least I was home so picture me trying to scoop up this fish that's flopping around among pieces of aquarium, water and gravel. I finally got him scooped up and all I could find to put him is was a 2 cup glass measuring cup. So this is where he lives now, on top of the fridge, hidden from the sight of on Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. And the emphasis is on the first two words of his name! Leroy on the other hand is unscathed and walking around incredibly proud of himself.

I was up early this morning and was actually productive. I made banana bread and chicken alfredo, both of which I will take some of in my lunch today. Last day of overtime!!!! This will make 15 days in a row that I have worked and then I have my regular 4 days, but then I have 5 days in a row off and in the middle of those 5 days is payday where I will see the benefits of all this overtime. So it's not so bad although I've really had to push myself these last couple of days.

I went to see Ladder 49 on it's opening night with Marco. I loved it. The next day everyone told me what bad reviews it got, not that I ever listened to reviews before, but they are so wrong. I went onto the MSN site for it and read the critics bad reviews and then went and read the readers reviews. Needless to say, the people who saw and reviewed it loved it. These were people who are married to firefighters, retired firefighters and the actual firefighters themselves. The only one that wasn't a five star rating didn't like it because of the music. They loved the storyline itself. As did I. It didn't end like you thought it would and it showed a whole different side to the heroic, all they do is run out and fight fires, side of the profession. It showed it as a family, which it is. Anyone who watched any documentaries on the aftermath of 9/11 saw then how the firemen have a bond within the house that has the strength and the devotion of true family. It was wonderful that this came through in the movie. Looking at Johnny T wasn't so tough to do either (lol).

I managed to get almost a whole week off in December, 5 days anyway so that will give me time to do all of my Christmas stuff like the baking and the shopping. I can probably arrange for the Chrisco Hamper to come that day too. If you haven't heard me rave about this before, it's a program where you pay every payday for 10 months and then in December, these food hampers are delivered. I'm getting one that's called the Turkey hamper upgrade plus bonus, one that's called the Everest Plus Freezer Pack and the Baking hamper. The deliver in December though so it's good that I will have a week off to arrange the delivery, although having Wed, Thurs and Friday off regularly, I can't see that it would have been a problem.

Anyway, time to go to work, or at least get ready to. 7 more hours and all OT will be done. Since my actual birthday is on a Saturday and everyone has to work that day, maybe I'll go Christmas shopping on my Birthday. There's an idea seeing as I already know of a few gifts that I want to get....

Bye for now.....

Western Fair
Originally uploaded by mspookie.
Oh, one more cool picture. It was taken when Rachel and I were waiting to go on the Tilt a Whirl at the Western Fair. It was really cloudy and we were looking at the rides when the sun broke through the clouds behind us. This picture shows the sun hitting the rides - the lights on the rides have not been turned on yet.

And that folks is it for now. It's now 8:30am and I have to work for noon so I really should be doing something more productive....

I love autumn. I love to see the leaves turn brilliant colours and I like the temperatures falling so that you can bring out the sweaters again. I know that this summer has not been all that great weather wise, but there’s something about the air in the autumn. It’s a crisp feeling that makes you feel glad to be alive.

Marco and I went to Niagara Falls last weekend for his birthday. The weather was perfect. We did the whole tourist thing with the Ripley’s Moving Theatre, the Butterfly Conservatory, the new casino and walking down by the falls. We even went to Hooters for his birthday dinner. If I had to rank the trip out of 10, it was a definite 10. I’m still working on my site and adding a pictures link to either it or this one, so when I get it figured out, I will add the pictures there. I am trying also, not to be on the computer so much. It’s amazing how much of your time seems to disappear when you start playing around on the computer.

I haven’t written much lately, I haven’t done much of anything lately, mostly due to working overtime on my days off and just being too tired when I get home but that is all about to change. I am finishing up working overtime this week and then I am going to get back to doing things that I used to do to pass the time. There are so many things that I used to do for relaxation; ceramics, cooking and making my own clothes. I think it’s about time to get back to these things, especially since Christmas is coming soon. Yes, folks, I said the C word. Oh yeah, and I have an afghan to finish.

Joanna is going to the new boyfriend’s parents for Thanksgiving. She’s worried about whether they will like her. Personally, I don’t see why they wouldn’t but then again, I’m biased considering I’m the one who taught her how to act (and not to act) in front of company. I think I did an okay job. I met Ryan and from what I can see, he seems to be the kind of guy that I would want to see her with and he had to have been raised by someone so I would think that his parents would be very nice people. You have to learn manners from someone and it’s usually your parents.

No Thanksgiving dinner in my house – both Rachel and I work. Rachel is, however, making a couple of Pumpkin Pies, one for Joanna to take to Ryan’s and one for her father to take to his mom’s for dinner. Rachel is one of the best cooks ever and when she gets into a baking mood, only good things result – Treats!!

Work is just that – work. There’s always drama in someone’s life and when you work in a call centre of 800 people, you don’t have to look far to find it and that’s all that I have to say about that.

It’s almost my birthday. It’s funny, when you consider how Joanna looks forward to her birthday, that I could care less. It’s just another day. I do appreciate that people try to make it special, don’t get me wrong, but it’s always more important to me that I make theirs something to remember. I’ve always been that way and I don’t see it changing in the near future.
