Musings from the edge

Tuesday. The sun is out and even better, our swimming pool is opening next week. I know there's really only been a few days so far that the heat has been unbearable but I know there will be more to come and seeing as how I walk home from work, that water will look really good when I get here.
Friday night was a first for me. An actual date. Guys probably won't understand the importance of this, but it was a true "brought me flowers when he picked me up, took me to dinner and then to a movie" date. We went to see "The Notebook" which is a true "date" movie. You know, the kind where the guy checks his testostrone at the door, gives up the car chases and the explosion scenes for the sake of allowing the woman to see a tear jerker movie. (Usually, he ends up crying too, he just doesn't admit it) For this I am willing to see at least half a dozen action packed vampire/creature/superhero movies in return. I was really looking forward to it, I have been since I saw the first preview. The only problem was that I wanted to see it so much that I went and read the book first. Bad idea folks. I should know better. It's always a bad idea to read the book first. It's virtually impossible to put everything in the book into the movie. Don't get me wrong. The movie was really good, but if you go see it and like it, read the book after. I only cried a couple of times in the movie, but numerous times while reading the book. Another good thing about seeing the movie first is that when you're reading the book, you can put faces to the characters. I guess that only counts though if you like the actors portraying the characters. I, however happen to be a huge fan of James Garner, right back to the Rockford files. I like Gina Rowland and really enjoyed watching two (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams)former Londoners on the big screen. Downfall to going on opening night was that there was a lineup to get in. I wonder how many people were there because they either knew the families of, or knew the two young stars. The story was sappy and sentimental but it was touching and spoke to the heart. On that note, I recently found something that I had discovered some time ago and forgot that I had it. It's not my own, but I don't know whose it is. I really like it and will share it with you.... A True Soul Mate Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you've never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can't wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it's like being young again. Colors seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn't exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day's work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there's no need for continuous conversation, but you find you're quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there's a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that's so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life. I hope that everyone gets to experience this at least once in their life. Sometimes it takes a long time to find this person, but it's worth the wait. Okay, enough sappiness. Nicole and Ahlam both went to see Fahrenheit 9/11 on the weekend. They both were incredibly moved by it. I have been waiting to see this movie since I heard they were finally allowed to release it. Michael Moore is probably one of the most courageous people that I have ever heard of. The movie does little to build confidence in the American government. I'm sure it will get limited play in the States. It's real life and as important as it was at the time that people saw "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindler's List" because they showed what was really going on in war, I think that it is also important for people to see the devastation that terrorism can bring to all countries, not just the States. Any coverage that we saw coming from the network feed made it appear that the only victims were the United States. Not true. Go see the movie. I know that I plan to. The other movie that I am going to see, one of the half dozen, is Spiderman 2. Opens tomorrow night. I just finally say the first one on Saturday so at least it's fresh in my mind... Anyway, that's it for now, I need to get my housework done so that I can go catch a few rays Don't worry (to those who continously tell me and you know who you are) I will wear sunscreen... :) |
